Why do I need eyeglasses?

Sharp, clear vision occurs when your cornea and lens work together. The cornea bends the incoming light to focus on the lens, and then your lens refines the effort, bending the light to focus on the retina at the back of your eye.

When the light isn’t focused properly, you have a refractive error that affects your vision. These errors most often occur when the eye is too long or short or the cornea has an irregular shape. However, you could have a problem with the lens.

Refractive errors include:

  • Nearsightedness (myopia): You can see close-up objects, but distance vision is blurry
  • Farsightedness (hyperopia): Distant objects are clear, but close-up vision is blurry
  • Astigmatism: Close-up and distance vision are both blurry
  • Presbyopia: Age-related refractive error that affects close-up vision

The team specially designs the lenses in your eyeglasses to correct your unique refractive error.

How do I get eyeglasses?

The first step is scheduling an eye exam at Vistasite Eye Care. After checking your vision to determine if you have a refractive error, they may dilate your eyes so they can examine your retina. This additional step ensures you don’t have another problem that could affect your vision.

After determining you need eyeglasses, they precisely measure your refractive error and write a prescription for your eyeglass lenses. Then you choose the eyeglass frames and wait a short time while your eyeglasses are produced.
